Harrisburg (Oct. 24, 2017) Sen. Brooks, Baker, Martin, Scavello and other senators listened to an infectious disease specialist, a leader of the PA Lyme Resource Network, and other experts about ways to control the increasing prevalence of Lyme disease in Pennsylvania, including ways to overcome the lack of a gold-standard for testing and the lack of a safe, effective vaccination.
Harrisburg—Oct. 17, 2017 - Sen. Brooks discussed employment opportunities for Pennsylvanians with disabilities with Keystone Blind Association’s President and CEO Jonathan Fister of Hermitage and Susan Miduri of UniqueSource, as they advocate for a Senate bill to establish Employment First, the Governor’s Cabinet for People with Disabilities, and the Employment First Oversight Commission.

June 23, 2017 – Vernon Township – Rain clouds parted as Vernon Township officials cut the ribbon on the newly renovated playground at Roche Park. Funds were provided by a Crawford Co. grant of $10,000 from Act 13 funds, along with a $10,000 township match. Numerous businesses, labor organization United Steel Workers Local 1917 and individuals also provided materials, labor and funding to support the work. Representatives of these organizations along with county and local officials joined Senator Brooks at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

April 30, 2017 - Joshua Tingley of Stoneboro, Mercer County, was honored with a citation from Senator Brooks to salute his attainment of his Eagle Scout Award, Scouting’s highest honor. Joshua built bat houses and bird houses around the Sandy Lake Area for his Eagle Scout project.
April 28, 2017 - Grove City - Sen. Brooks saluted the talent and hard work of the Grove City Swim Team, who swam their way to the state divisional championship, and produced state champions in the 200-meter and 400-meter relays. The team is coached by Karen Wendelschaefer, aided by assistant Kellie Kleinert.

Brooks was excited to congratulate Grove City junior Emily Gordon, who became Mercer County’s first-ever state champion in girls’ tennis after winning the Class AA title at the Hershey Racquet Club. Emily is also the three-time District 10 girls’ tennis singles champion. She compiled a flawless 18-0 record this past season.

The Conneaut (CASH) and Union City FFA Chapters traveled to the Farm Show for the Pennsylvania FFA Convention held in the New Holland Large Arena. Seven of CASH’s members were receiving the prestigious Keystone Degree, five their FFA blue jacket and from the Union City chapter, two received their blue jackets. Several members also participated in the square dance completion as well that evening.

January 9, 2017, Harrisburg – Senator Michele Brooks spent time at the 101st Pennsylvania Farm Show visiting with folks back home. Emma and Leah Marsteller talked with Senator Brooks about bringing their llamas to the Farm Show. This year is the first time for llamas at the Farm Show. Leah also took the time to explain to Senator Brooks about “felting” and provided a sampling of her work. Little sister Alexa also shared in the fun.
January 7, 2017 – Erie – Senator Brooks had the pleasure to meet Ruth Graham and Windsor Bauders, daughter and granddaughter of Rev. Billy Graham at the People for Life breakfast in Erie.
January 3, 2017 – Harrisburg – Senator Brooks was honored to be an escort along with Senators Folmer and Dinniman for Senator Scarnati as he heads to the rostrum after being unanimously re-elected by members of the Senate to serve as President Pro Tempore of the Pennsylvania Senate for 2017.
