Brooks Announces More Than $800,000 in Recreation and Conservation Funding for Crawford County

Conservation and Natural Resources Grants

HARRISBURG — Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) today announced a combined $812,200 in Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2) funding for four recreation and conservation projects in Crawford County.

“From expanding access to trails and parks to supporting stewardship of the French Creek Watershed and protecting natural resources, these projects will have a lasting impact on residents and visitors throughout Crawford County,” said Brooks. “Investing in our community is investing in our region’s future and making it a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

Cambridge Springs Borough was awarded $316,900 to rehabilitate Cambridge Springs Recreation Park. Improvements will include construction of a comfort station with a concession stand; pedestrian walkways and a parking area; installation of utilities; ADA access; landscaping; a project sign; and other related site improvements.

French Creek Recreational Trails Inc. was awarded $300,000 to develop the Ernst Bike Trail in Sadsbury and Vernon townships. The project will rehabilitate approximately 2.4 miles of trail from the Coleman Drive Trailhead to east of the McMichael Road Trailhead. Improvements will include ADA access, landscaping, a project sign and other related site improvements. The Ernst Trail currently extends from Meadville along an abandoned railroad bed to Route 19 in Vernon Township, where the existing paved trail transitions to a rough, unpaved surface.

French Creek Valley Conservancy was awarded $105,000 to coordinate and promote educational events and programming, and conduct stewardship and volunteer activities throughout the French Creek Watershed. The project will include an electronic written summary report.

Tamarack Wildlife Center was awarded $90,300 toward the acquisition of approximately 70 acres in Hayfield Township for open space and passive recreation.

C2P2 is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and provides funding for community recreation, conservation and revitalization projects across Pennsylvania.
