Brooks Announces Nearly $2.3 Million for Water Infrastructure Projects in Mercer County

HARRISBURG –– Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) announced the approval of nearly $2.3 million in low-interest financing for two drinking water infrastructure projects in Mercer County.

“Reliable access to clean drinking water is essential for the health and safety of our communities,” Brooks said. “This funding will help modernize aging infrastructure, improve water quality and reliability and ensure residents in Mercer County have access to dependable drinking water for years to come. By making these improvements now, we are protecting public health while laying the groundwork for continued economic development.”

South Pymatuning Township will receive a $1.8 million loan to install more than 6,500 feet of new waterline along Kathy Lane, Buckeye Drive and Saranac Drive. The project also includes new fire hydrants, valves and related infrastructure and is expected to provide approximately 69 new service connections, improving access to safe, reliable drinking water for residents currently served by private wells.

Stoneboro Borough will receive a $500,000 loan for the design and engineering of a major drinking water system rehabilitation and expansion project. The project includes plans for at least two new groundwater wells, approximately 11,000 feet of new water transmission line and replacement of aging water distribution lines and related infrastructure throughout the borough.

The funding was awarded by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). PENNVEST is a financing authority that provides low-cost financial assistance to address water, wastewater, stormwater and non-point source pollution problems that impact public health, safety, the environment, regulatory compliance and economic development.
