Brooks Announces More Than $553,000 for Parks, Trails and Recreation Planning in Crawford and Mercer Counties

HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) announced today that Crawford and Mercer counties have been awarded more than $553,000 through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (DCNR) Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2) to support recreation planning, park rehabilitation and outdoor access improvements.

“These investments will improve local parks, increase accessibility and help communities plan for the future,” Brooks said. “The projects will help enhance our efforts to strengthen our communities for local families and tourists visiting the region.”

The funded projects include:

Mercer County

$127,200 for the further development of Munnell Run in Coolspring Township. Work will include construction of pedestrian walkways, an access drive and parking area; installation of meadow and stormwater management measures; ADA accessibility improvements, landscaping, project signage and other related site enhancements.

Crawford County

$76,200 to prepare a Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Plan for Crawford County. The project will include an electronic written report to guide future investments, coordination and long-term recreational planning across the county.

$349,800 for the rehabilitation and further development of Heist Park in Woodcock Borough and Woodcock Township. Improvements will include construction of an internal loop trail and pedestrian bridge; installation of playground equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA accessibility upgrades, landscaping, signage and other related site improvements.

Brooks emphasized the importance of pairing long-term planning with on-the-ground improvements.

“Projects like these reflect a balanced approach — investing in our natural resources, addressing infrastructure needs, while expanding recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike,” Brooks said. “I appreciate DCNR’s continued partnership and working with local leaders to secure this funding. Family areas that anyone can visit are just so incredibly important.”

The C2P2 program supports planning, acquisition and development of public parks, recreation areas, trails and greenways across Pennsylvania.
