HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) announced today several community improvement projects across Crawford County received state funding totaling $858,000 to support senior services, roadway improvements, public safety, municipal facilities and community infrastructure.
“From supporting our seniors and improving road safety to ensuring townships have the facilities they need to serve residents, this funding continues to deliver real results at the local level,” said Brooks. “Crawford County municipalities work hard to stretch every dollar, and this funding will help them tackle important projects that otherwise may not be possible. I look forward to continuing to work with our local governments and organizations to secure future funding.”
The following projects were approved:
Crawford County – Active Aging Senior Project – $200,000
Active Aging Inc. will construct a new senior center to replace its undersized and outdated facility, which currently limits programming opportunities. The project will redevelop a remediated, previously blighted property and include full building construction with HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, along with parking, sidewalks, curbing and stormwater controls. The new center will expand programming, improve accessibility and provide space for public meetings, polling and other community uses.
Greenwood Township – Delano Road Reconstruction Project – $200,000
Greenwood Township is developing plans to reconstruct Delano Road from State Route 19 to its endpoint, including asphalt paving, aggregate shoulder backup and application of a prime coat binder. Delano Road serves as a critical access route for the township’s two largest employers, Vitro Glass and JM Manufacturing, as well as area residents. Improvements will support continued economic growth and safer travel conditions.
Sadsbury Township – Boom Mower Equipment Purchase – $100,000
Sadsbury Township will purchase a new tractor with a boom mower to maintain roadside vegetation and keep intersections clear and safe. The new equipment will replace machinery that is more than 20 years old and nearing the end of its useful life, improving safety for motorists and residents year-round.
Union Township – Municipal Building Construction Project – $93,000
Union Township is working towards constructing a new municipal building to house township records, offices for the Board of Supervisors and secretary and space for residents to vote. The township currently lacks a dedicated municipal facility, and the project will ensure essential government services and secure record storage are available locally.
West Mead Township – Liberty Street Paving and Safety Improvements – $125,000
West Mead Township is working to make roadway and safety improvements along Liberty Street between Lamont Drive and Franklin Pike. The project includes paving, installation of additional street lighting to improve visibility for pedestrians and cyclists and replacement of an undersized culvert to address stormwater and flooding issues. These upgrades will improve safety while protecting the roadway from further deterioration.
Hayfield Township – Municipal Building Roof Replacement – $100,000
Hayfield Township will replace the failing roof on its municipal building, which is beyond its useful life and experiencing leaks. The project will ensure the building remains functional for township operations and community use.
In addition, the Meadville Area Recreation Authority received $40,000 in Act 13 funding to complete a master site development plan for the Meadville Area Recreation Complex, supporting long-term planning for recreational opportunities in the region.
The statewide LSA program distributes gaming revenue to economic development projects. The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program funds projects involving development, rehabilitation and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails and river conservation. The grants are funded through the Marcellus Shale Fund, which was created by Act 13 of 2012.
The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
