Brooks Announces More Than $2.9 Million in State Investments to Expand Affordable Housing in 50th Senatorial District

HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) today announced that communities across the 50th Senatorial District will receive more than $2.9 million through the commonwealth’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program to expand and rehabilitate affordable housing for local families.

The funding, awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will support the rehabilitation of homes in Lawrence and Mercer Counties and the creation of new affordable rental units in the City of Meadville,

“This significant investment will bring real help to seniors, individuals with disabilities, and other residents in the 50th District, and also increase affordable housing opportunities for potential homebuyers in the future,” Brooks said. “These funds will also help prevent older structures from deteriorating and avoid further blight in our communities.”

Project funding includes:

Mercer County:

  • City of Hermitage – $750,000
  • Greenville Borough – $400,000
  • City of Sharon – $400,000

Lawrence County: $750,000 (serving Lawrence and Mercer counties)

Crawford County: $596,407 and $50,000 for operating support for Common Roots, a Community Housing Development Organization.

The HOME Program – funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by DCED – helps municipalities preserve and expand affordable housing options for low- and very low-income Pennsylvanians.
