HARRISBURG — Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) announced the approval of two grant projects in Mercer County totaling more than $1.5 million to modernize several intersections to increase safety for pedestrians and motorists.
“These projects will improve safety at some of Mercer County’s busiest intersections by upgrading outdated traffic signal infrastructure,” Brooks said. “I’m pleased to see state funding supporting improvements that will benefit everyone who travels these roads.”
The City of Sharon will receive $1,139,819 for the traffic signal modernization and incorporation of curb extensions at Sharpsville Avenue, Dock Street and Railroad Street at their intersections with East State Street.
Grove City Borough will receive $364,584 for the traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of South Center Street and East Pine Street.
The grants are provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Green Light-Go program. Established by the General Assembly in 2013, Green Light-Go is a competitive state grant program designed to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals.
