HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) today announced the awarding of a $1.4 million in state grants to the Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County for the Cambridge Springs Community Senior Center project and Allegheny College for Allegheny Lab for Innovation & Creativity (ALIC) @ Bessemer.
ALIC @ Bessemer received $1 million in funding to help transform the property into a dynamic hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and workforce development by focusing on infrastructure, IT, security and other improvements. The project includes renovating five classrooms into state-of-the-art, student-centered environments and modernizing four laboratories to focus on advanced manufacturing technologies.
“I appreciate the opportunity to work collaboratively on this incredible project with Allegheny College, Economic Progress Alliance, and our manufacturers that will strengthen our workforce, create jobs and promote entrepreneurship, while helping to preserve our area’s strong heritage of manufacturing,” Brooks said. “I also want to thank the Administration for their interest in this project as well.”
The Cambridge Springs Community Senior Center project received $400,000 in funding to be used towards creating a much-needed space for seniors with a community senior center and outdoor recreational features.
“The new facility will include a commercial kitchen and expanded dining area, accessible restrooms, library, classrooms, exercise room, flexible community spaces, and on-site parking with handicap accessible spaces, all of which meet a critical need for our seniors in the region,” Brooks said. “This project is very exciting and is the first step in a multi-phase venture that will help support a small community and empower our senior citizens.”
The grants were awarded through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
