MERCER – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) announced that the City of Hermitage has been awarded $431,448 to support several pedestrian safety upgrades aimed at improving travel and traffic flow in high-activity areas throughout the city.

“These improvements will make travel safer for pedestrians, motorists and families throughout the Hermitage community,” Brooks said. “With continued development and increased activity in the area, it is important that infrastructure keeps pace to support safe and efficient movement for everyone.”

It includes the installation of highly visible stamped concrete crosswalks at North Hermitage Road and Highland Road, Indian Run, East State Street and Glimcher Boulevard. Funding will also support replacement of the existing concrete median at North Hermitage Road and East State Street with a landscaped softscape median designed to help calm traffic.

The safety enhancements are tied to expected increases in pedestrian activity associated with the Hickory Fields development, which includes businesses such as Target, Chick-fil-A, Chili’s and LongHorn Steakhouse. It will also improve connectivity between the Hermitage School District and the Hickory Fields site for student workers and community members.

The project is being funded through the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) program for the City Center Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Project and is part of a statewide TASA funding round supporting improvements to pedestrian, bicycle and transit-access infrastructure across Pennsylvania.
