Brooks Announces City of Sharon Traffic Signal Improvement Funding

HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) today announced the approval of a $762,534 state grant to modernize several intersections in the City of Sharon to increase safety for pedestrians and motorists.

The project is a continuation of the Sharon Streetscape Project and will include the installation of LED traffic signals at the intersections of Euclid Avenue and State Street and Stambaugh Avenue, and North Oakland Avenue and State Street. The grant will also allow the intersections to be equipped with emergency vehicle preemption, allowing for increased mobility of emergency vehicles.

“Understanding the importance of safe and efficient traffic flow for our communities, I was pleased to advocate for this funding for the City of Sharon. It is also my hope that with these upgrades it will help our emergency response vehicles,” Brooks said. “The installation of these two new traffic signals will allow the funds typically used to maintain the lights at these intersections to be used at other locations throughout the city to continue traffic flow and safety improvements.”

Additional features to be installed include new mast arms, new traffic signal controller with battery backup, vehicular and pedestrian detection and new pedestrian signals, as well as the replacement of all existing wiring. The city will provide a local match of $190,633, for a total project cost of $953,167.

The grants are provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Green Light-Go program. Established by the General Assembly in 2013, Green Light-Go is a competitive state grant program designed to improve traffic signal efficiency and operation in communities across Pennsylvania.
