HARRISBURG – Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) announced today the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) approval of nearly $3 million in Multimodal Transportation Fund grants for two infrastructure projects in Mercer County aimed at improving transportation safety, supporting economic development and jobs and enhancing quality of life.
The funding will support roadway improvements in an industrial corridor and new greenspace development along a key riverfront area.
“These investments will strengthen our communities and create new opportunities for families and businesses to thrive,” Brooks said. “By working together, we can ensure residents have access to safe infrastructure, vibrant public spaces and the resources needed for a brighter future.”
The City of Hermitage will receive $2,046,800 to rehabilitate roads in the Wheatland Industrial Area, which is home to more than 30 businesses employing several hundred workers. Local roadways play a vital role in supporting this hub of economic activity, serving as key routes for the daily transportation of raw materials and finished products.
“The City of Hermitage is grateful to Gov. Shapiro’s administration for making this critical infrastructure investment, and to Sen. Michele Brooks for her assistance in securing the funding,” said Hermitage City Manager Gary Hinkson. “This project will deliver essential road and stormwater improvements needed to support and sustain commerce in the industrial area of Hermitage’s Wheatland neighborhood.”
The City of Sharon will receive $694,711 to support greenspace development along the East Silver Street riverfront, enhancing public access and revitalizing the area.
PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund supports projects that ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation for Pennsylvania residents.
