Senator Brooks and Rep. Bonner Announce State Funding for Project in Perry Township

HARRISBURG – State Sen. Michele Brooks (R-50) and Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) announced today the approval of state funding for a project in Perry Township.

The project will extend sewage service from the current main line, at the intersection of U.S. Route 19 and Fredonia Road (State Route 1001), northward within the U.S. Route 19 right-of-way. The purpose of the project is to update and install approximately 5,800 feet of low-pressure sewer main as part of Perry Township’s Hadley wastewater treatment plant renovation.

“The Commodore Perry School District’s wastewater treatment plant is currently in a state of severe disrepair and at risk for failure. This grant will allow the district to connect to the township system, which will preserve public health without adding costs to our residents,” Brooks said.

Numerous grinder pumps, an equalization tank and an emergency generator will also be installed. Approximately eight residential properties will be connected prior to the complete decommissioning of the existing plant on Commodore Perry School District property.

“A well-functioning wastewater treatment system is vital to ensuring public health and safety,” Bonner said. “I was pleased to support this grant to help the residents and the community. This project will ensure the longevity of the sewer system for years to come. If the PENNVEST grant was not covering the entire $726,200 that it will cost to complete the project, customer rates would have increased by 39 percent.”

The funding was approved by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). PENNVEST is an independent agency of the Commonwealth providing financial assistance to fund construction of drinking water, sewer and stormwater projects in communities throughout Pennsylvania.
