Brooks’ Bill on Handicapped Placards Approved

HARRISBURG – (June 30, 2017) The Senate Transportation Committee today approved a bill introduced by Sen. Michele Brooks that will allow legislative offices to issue temporary handicapped placards to those with demonstrated medical need.

Senate Bill 781 will still require applicants for a placard to obtain a health care professional’s approval, but the process for obtaining the placard will be expedited.

“It is difficult when a sudden injury or illness causes mobility issues and a person must wait weeks for a placard from PennDOT,” Sen. Brooks said. “This bill streamlines the process and makes it more responsive to individual needs.”

The bill now goes to the full Senate for a vote.
