Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati recently appointed Senator Michele Brooks to serve on the Advisory Committee of the Department of Health for the Primary Health Care Practitioners Program.
The committee is empowered under state law to advise and assist the department in improving health care services in designated medically underserved areas of Pennsylvania. These activities include recruitment and retention of primary care practitioners and working to maximize the use of public and private funding in activities to improve care in those underserved areas.
“I appreciate the opportunity to work with the committee on improving access to health care,” said Senator Brooks. “This is a serious issue in many rural areas in northwestern Pennsylvania. There is definitely a need to actively address those underserved areas and I look forward to helping in that effort.”
